Midway Lineup Full Of Hits

DATE: -0/5-/2004
COMPANY: Midway

Midway had several strong games on display in their booth. These games included Midway?s second classic arcade release called Midway Arcade Treasures 2, the next game in the Mortal Kombat line, Mortal Kombat: Deception, a revamp of an old fave in Area 51, as well as new names like Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy .

Midway Arcade Treasures 2 brings together several of their arcade cabinet hits. This collection includes the original three Mortal Kombat games, the original NARC, Gauntlet 2, Pit Fighter, Spy Hunter 2 and over a dozen more games. Arcade Treasures 2 will hit the streets by the end of the year.

Midway?s latest Mortal Kombat game, Mortal Kombat: Deception, draws upon the previous release, Deadly Alliance, and expands on many of the features that people loved, while adding some new concepts as well.

Mortal Kombat: Deception brings back characters not seen since the original trilogy and adds online aspects to the line. The online features allow you to play one-on-one matches as well as tournament fights. Also seen in the game are several mini-games like Kombat Chess and Puzzle Kombat (which resembles Puzzle Fighter).

These plus the new Fatalities make the new MK game a must see when it comes out later this year.

Area 51 is a squad-based first-person shooter where you are a member of a containment team who is trying to keep a mass of monsters from escaping the secret government facility. This game has a huge single player mode as well as comprehensive online play. And there isn?t any lacking in the weapons department either. You will have more than 10 weapons at your disposal, plus many biological weapons that you gain when the mutation in the base gets a hold of you.

The last game I mentioned above was Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy. I got a look at this game last year when it was called ESPionage, and it has changed dramatically. A year ago the style of the game was a lot different than it is now. The new look seems to fit the story and character development much more.

The basic design and idea behind the game is still intact making it a good mix of action/adventure and stealth. You play as a member of a covert operations team who has psychic powers. At the beginning of the game, your powers are weak, but as you progress you will gain new abilities, as well as be able to use the older ones better. At your disposal will be telekinesis, pyrokinesis, mind control, remote viewing (outer body experiences), mind drain and aura view. All of these will allow you to plan your next move before you have to barrel into a room with guns blazing. The controls are smooth and easy to use ? but it will take some work to get good at your various abilities.

Be on the lookout for full reviews as these games release.
