Majesco Shows GBA Video, Blood Rayne 2 And Wireless Hardware

DATE: -0/5-/2004
COMPANY: Majesco
PRODUCT: GameBoy Advance Video

With the GameBoy Advance Video line as well as Blood Rayne 2, Advent Rising and a couple of hardware products, Majesco has a lineup that will make a few heads turn.

There has been a lot of talk concerning the GBA Video cartridges that Majesco is releasing. Each cartridge contains two episodes of many current TV series like Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, Spongebob Squarepants and The Fairly Odd Parents (just to name a few). The first time I looked at them (an episode of Yu-Gi-Oh to be specific), I saw them as highly pixilated and blurry images where I could barely make out what was happening. Later, I went back to their booth and looked at a wider selection of shows.

That first showing was in the minority, because many of the other shows I saw were a lot crisper than the previous one. But the price seems a bit steep for only two episodes. I can get a DVD of three or four shows for less than or equal to that price. Sure I can't watch it on my GBA or necessarily on the road, but it doesn?t seem to be quite as much bang for the buck. We will see, as there is a lot of demand for this and it will probably go far - only time will tell.

Blood Rayne 2 boasts the beautiful and busty creature of the night from the original as she treks through dark alleys killing thugs and villains. She has a new control scheme as well as a new HUD and a wide array of acrobatics.

The other game Majesco is showing off is Advent Rising, a third-person action game where you face off against many different creatures on strange planets. You will have many weapons to use against these hordes of baddies ? including any weapon that they happen to drop. Along with those, your character has powers that allow him to throw fire, move super fast and block attacks.

The two hardware devices that were on display follow the trend that Nintendo started when they announced their first-party wireless connector for the GameBoy Advance. Majesco now has their own wireless connector called the Wireless Link as well as a wireless instant messenger system called Wireless Messenger. These two devices look almost exactly alike but the Messenger has a much wider range at three miles.

Connecting to friends within the three-mile radius is easy. Every GameBoy Advance equipped with the device within the range will appear in a list ? simply select the name and start typing. By typing I mean navigate the cursor across the screen?s keyboard and select the characters you want. There is also a buddy list system in the Messenger that allows you to see if your friends are around.
