The Ghost Has Yet To Be Seen

DATE: -0/5-/2004
COMPANY: Blizzard
PRODUCT: Ghost

Think of Splinter Cell in space. Except this time Sam Fisher is a woman. A woman who can cloak herself and launch nuclear warheads at will. She is a Ghost, the elite of the elite of terran forces in the Starcraft universe.

StarCraft: Ghost is a third person action/stealth title set sometime during the Brood War expansion for the original StarCraft game, and will be released on all 3 major home consoles. You get to take one of those sneaky Ghosts with top of the line equipment and a knack for stealth kills on all sorts of missions. All three races are going to make it into the final version, as will many vehicles, so you?ll finally get a chance to personally take it to the enemy.

Players will follow a linear story line and get to use such infamous weapons as the lockdown, sniper rifles, and cloaking. And yes, the most important weapon of any RTS is going to be available at least once during this stealth/action game. Of course I am speaking of the tactical nuke that can be launched only when the Ghost ?paints? a target for destruction. The developers assured us that if it was allowed as a normal weapon that players would suffer physical harm from over-excitement, so consider yourself blessed that the good people at Blizzard are watching out for you and keeping your nuclear abilities in check.

From their track record, Blizzard probably won?t have this game out for the holidays, but one can always hope. It has come a long way since last year, and we can actually play it this time. There are a few certainties though. Ghost will be a solid, immersive, and fun game to play. But if it does make it out before the holidays, it?s going to be a very merry time.
