Eidos Brings It

DATE: -0/5-/2004
COMPANY: Eidos

This E3, Eidos had several games showcased, but two really seemed to stand out.

The first, Singles, plays very much like the ever popular The Sims for the PC. The major difference? This one is rated Adults Only. Tired of just seeing your Sim kiss and babble simspeak to his main squeeze? Let him hop into bed and do the nasty. That's right - all us sickos, I mean, YOU sickos can make your digital counterparts engage in all sorts of grown-up activities. This one will be available for download for around $30 next spring and should spice up many a night for simulation devotees across the U.S. It's already made quite a stir in Europe.

Next up is 25 To Life, which is sort of a SOCOM meets urban cops 'n' robbers warfare. Basically, it's you against the cops (or vice versa depending on who you choose to play), in an all-out bullet spraying free-for-all. Online play is available for up to 16 players and environments have plenty of destructible goodies to keep you busy. There's also a single player campaign for those who like to play by themselves, but we know the real fun is busting a cap in your buddies online - using the USB headset!

You start the game by busting out of prison and work your way up through the ranks on the mean streets. As you run around, guns blazing, barking dogs and car alarms can give away your position, so strategy definitely plays a key role here. A hip hop soundtrack and the ability to customize your character from his head to his toes rounds it out.

Look for 25 To Life on the PS2 and Xbox in spring of 2005.

Not to be left out are Eidos' other offerings such as Thief: Deadly Shadows being developed by Warren Spector and his team. This sneakfest coming out for the Xbox and PC is the sequel to the hit Thief and once again has you skulking around houses, breaking in and stealing stuff. This time around, you can change from 1st to 3rd person view on the fly, giving the game a whole new perspective. Plus, they've improved the A.I. It's good stuff.

There's also Crash 'N' Burn, a racing game for the PS2 and Xbox set to release this fall. This one allows you to choose your vehicle, customize it, then jump on the track and race to win. Sound all too familiar? Well, they didn't name it Crash 'N' Burn for nothing. Sure, you want to win the race, but you also want to lay to waste all the other cars. This is like a demolition derby, with all the car parts flying about and landing on the track, only to stay there. Did your car just burst into flames and happen to drive over an oil spill left by another unfortunate victim? Cool! Create a flaming line of demarkation across the track. Its fast, its furious, its complete and utter destruction. Feed your road rage need this fall.

Backyard Wrestling 2 is also slated for the fall on Xbox and PS2 and basically, they fixed what was wrong with the first one. More wrestlers, more moves, more mayhem and more fun.

Also look for Shellshock Nam '67, a third person shooter, on the PC, PS2 and Xbox this summer and Imperial Glory, an RTS, on the PC in early 2005.
