Long time readers will probably remember my review of Top Gun on the PS2 a few months ago. Even though there were the makings of a good game somewhere, the overabundance of flaws kept the game from reaching its full potential. Discouraged, but not out of the fight, Titus looks to redeem the Top Gun name with the GameCube release.
Essentially, this is a straight port of the PS2 version. However, Titus has taken both reviewer and gamer criticisms to heart and reworked parts of the game to make it better. Of course, I was skeptical about this until I played it - and the changes are noticeable. The biggest has to be the graphics. The massive draw-in and fogging problems have been alleviated and the planes look just as good and in some cases even better than the PS2 version.
Another of the game's major flaws, control, has also been reworked. A few more control options have been added, giving would-be Mavericks more freedom to fly. As good as they were, I still had some issues with the controls since they still lean towards more of a flight-sim style than an arcade one - which would fit better with the game. Hopefully, these issues will be fixed before the game's release.
