With Lilo & Stitch about to arrive in theaters this June, Disney is already hard at work with its next animated hit, Treasure Planet. As usual, a game is already in the works for release alongside the film this November.

Taking a futuristic twist on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic, 'Treasure Island', the game follows Jim and his trusty protoplasmic 'shape-shifter' sidekick, Morph, as they explore the galaxy in search of treasure and adventure.

Interestingly enough, I will always remember this game as the first game I played at E3 (Mark of Kri would have gotten that distinction had it not been for an overzealous security guard). Even though it is still in its early stages, already this game looks like it has a lot of potential. For the most part, the game is your standard platformer. Things get interesting once you learn about Morph's special abilities. After standing on a glowing platform, Morph can turn himself into various tools, such as a jetpack or bionic arms, to help Jim solve puzzles or overcome obstacles. But you have to be quick, because Morph can only hold his form for a certain amount of time.

Treasure Planet will also feature several 'solar sailing' levels, where Jim just guide his solar sailor (basically a hovering wind board) as he completes various Tony Hawk style objectives. The game will also feature DVD extras such as movie clips and behind-the-scenes footage.
