Drop your lunchbox and come running for this one, boys and girls! Not only is the idea of a Robotech game great, but try 2 Robotech games! Robotech Battlecry will be released for Gamecube and Xbox, and a very different but still very cool GBA version will also be released. Cel-shading for the next-gen console version is the real treat in store for gamers. The action at this point is amazing considering the game was only about 50% complete at the show. Transforming between multiple states, we played through a level that had us trying to defend a large stadium from an army of small and large artillery, including other giant robots. The transformations are slick looking, and the controls felt solid. Cel-shaded explosions and effects look amazing, and with all the tweaking that should go on between now and when Robotech Battlecry ships near the end of this year, we're expecting something truly special from TDK.

Not to short the GBA version, because it is a great looking old-school shooter. With side-scrolling action that lets you take on 10 levels in single-player and play between 2-4 multi-player modes, this one looks fun. We especially liked the way you could transform into a ground unit and then back into flying form to respond quickly to the type of enemy challenging you. Seeing this in action made us realize that old-school, side-scrolling shooters aren't represented as much as they should be on the portable system, so it's nice to see such a cool license realized in this form.

There's some sort of unidentifiable blurring in a couple of the tapes, but no sign of a 'elite team' to be found. I think all that cr*p about a 'Game Vortex' and some 'Team PS2' is some punk kids on our radio frequency. If you ask me, we oughtta..."
