Essential Reality Puts Control Back In Your Hands

DATE: 2002-06-02 00:23:14

Envious of the wizards of the silver screen that wave their hands and change the environment around them? Perhaps you have a touch of Jedi-envy? Well, Essential Reality is striving to hand you the future...

Enter the P5 Glove, a glove-like peripheral that has been engineered to capture the motion and positions of all five fingers, facilitating gesture recognition, combined with an optical tracking device that will capture hand movement in 3D space with six degrees of freedom (X, Y, Z, yaw, pitch and roll). The possibilities of the uses of the P5 are limited only by the imagination. Imagine 'sculpting' a model in 3D with the fluidity of clay in real life. Outstretch your hand to draw your light sabre to you. Choke the air in front of you to inflict damage a la Darth Vader. Slide panels in and out with the wave of your hand a la Minority Report.

The P5 Glove is a USB based product that will allow for direct "plug and play" in personal computers as well as some of the game consoles, such as the PS2. According to the Essential Reality website, the P5 is expected to be available for sale during the second half of 2002 with an suggested retail price of $129-$149 (depending on specific bundles). The future is here - and its fate is in your hands...
