Sony Hits the Mark

One of my favorite Disney movies has to be Mulan. While it's not the best movie, there is something about the visual style and action that has always appealed to me. Okay, I can see by that confused look on your face that you have no idea where I'm going with this Disney-trip, but its actually very relevant - so bear with me.

The Mark of Kri, from Sony, is very reminiscent of everything I like about Mulan. In fact it feels like a playable version of the movie - well, sans the wise-cracking dragon, cute peasant girl turned warrior and everything else Disney about the movie.

You are Rau, a warrior who is all action and a man of few words, on a quest to discover his family's dark secrets. While the game's distinct style (several of the game's artists worked for Disney and Don Bluth films) take center stage, the real star is the game's innovative fighting system. Until now, enemies usually approached you in big groups, only to attack you one at a time. However, Mark of Kri brings a whole new approach to group battles. When an enemy first approaches Kri, it is assigned to one of the four face buttons. Pressing a button attacks the corresponding enemy making for some really fast paced and action packed battles. Not only is this system a blast, it also keeps you alert and on your toes at all times in battle. Rau can also pull off over thirty different finishing moves to dispatch his opponents, making Mark of Kri a gore lover's dream. Although the game still has a few wrinkles to iron out, it looks like Sony may have a winner on its hands.

There's some sort of unidentifiable blurring in a couple of the tapes, but no sign of a 'elite team' to be found. I think all that cr*p about a 'Game Vortex' and some 'Team PS2' is some punk kids on our radio frequency. If you ask me, we oughtta..."
