E3 2005: Level Up
Viva La Karaoke Revolution!
Product: Karaoke Revolution Party
Company: Konami
Date: 05/21/2005
Avaliable On:

This fall, Konami will once again grace the karaoke-loving gaming community with the latest iteration of their hit series, Karaoke Revolution. Karaoke Revolution Party, coming out for the PS2, Xbox and Game Cube, will combine all the goodness we've loved from previous Karaoke Revolutions of the past, along with some new elements sure to please.

New to the series is the addition of Dance Dance Revolution elements in a mode called, appropriately enough, Sing and Dance. Now, we can't all be Britney Spears, but with this new mode, you'll be able to sing your favorite tunes of the past and present, along with doing dance steps, a la DDR. The arrows for the dance steps will appear at the bottom of the screen, with the words to sing being above those.

If you just want to get your Karaoke groove on, you can still sing either alone in Quickplay or in duets, as seen in Karaoke Revolution 3. Another new addition is the Eye Toy capability, available in the PS2 version. With this, you can see yourself onscreen as you sing and dance.

On the Xbox version, there will be some downloadable content available on Xbox Live.

Konami tells us that there will be new characters and arenas such as Club Revolution, Vegas and Beach party, as we saw here at the show. There will be 50 new songs as well, with unlockable songs not being guaranteed, but inevitable if we follow what they've done in the past. Although what we saw was merely a taste, Karaoke Revolution Party looks to be a guaranteed hit with fans and might even bring some DDR lovers into the fold, as well.

Here's a list of the songs we got a chance to check out at E3:

  • Everybody Wants to Rule the World
  • Me and Bobby McGee
  • Crazy in Love
  • I Don't Wanna Be
  • What I Like About You
  • Ain't To Proud To Beg
  • Waiting For a Girl Like You
  • Material Girl
  • Pieces of Me
  • Play That Funky Music
  • Take On Me
  • Superstition
  • Brick House
  • I Love Rock and Roll

Stay tuned for a full review as soon as we get our hands on it.
