The first game O3 was showing behind closed doors at E3 was their new Xbox title, Resonance, due out in February of 2006. Resonance's main character is Faye Winter, a constable/witch who is sent out by the king to find out what is going on with the Spanish Inquisition. After all, nobody expects a Spanish Inquisition. But anyway...
Along her travels, she begins to unlock more and more special powers called the Dark Arts, which in addition to her ability to see into the spirit world, aid her in her quest. She can sprout wings to help her fly or jump high to get to areas she couldn't normally reach, and she weilds both a melee and a parrying weapon. Additionally, if Faye sneaks up on an enemy, she can catch them by surprise and inflict far more damage
Resonance is an action RPG that promises some 60 hours of gameplay, a hefty supply of puzzles, along with numerous enemies trying to stop her from ending the Spanish Inquisition.
Next up was Chaos Field, a rail shooter for the Game Cube that reminded me of the awesome old-school shooter EDF. Chaos Field looks bright, colorful and action-packed, and is due out in September.
Finally, Pocket Dogs, also due out in September, was O3's Game Boy Advance offering. Pocket Dogs reminded me a lot of Nintendogs, only with static pictures of dogs and without Miyamoto's very friendly puppy. Pocket Dogs marries the idea of the Tamagotchi pets with the ultra-cute Hanadeka dogs of Japan (or for those not familiar, the big-headed dogs in the McDonald's Happy Meal series "Dogs").
You'll enter info about yourself such as your name and whether you are a boy or a girl, and the game will respond accordingly with a somewhat customized selection of questions. Then you'll choose your breed of dog and either feed and love him to level up, or he'll bite. This looks to be a cute offering for the kids, and even though the characters are pictures of the dogs instead of actual animations, they are still sweet and appealing. |
