Midway had a good showing of old games done anew as well as some original titles to round the bunch out. Unreal and Mortal Kombat were no surprises, and neither was their newest Arcade Treasures. Gauntlet got a face lift, and L.A. Rush received a bit of a nitro boost. The Suffering: The Ties That Bind is even darker than the original. Newcomers included Civilizations at War and Stranglehold. Whether old or new, the games in this lineup came together to form a strong showing for Midway.
Blitz came crashing back onto the scene as well. Blitz: The League is as dirty and mean as its predecessors. Bones will be broken, skulls will be crushed, and blood will be spilt on the football fields of this game. A story mode has been included, the first in any sports game, where on and off field politics, injuries, and general problems stick with you through your entire season. Blitz should hit PS2 and Xbox owners this winter.
Midway?s darker side is coming out in The Suffering: Ties That Bind. Once again, players take control of Torque, the shotgun toting anti-hero on a quest for revenge. Flashbacks will reveal Torque?s past, and new sinister characters will plague his future. It is your job to choose his destiny as you control his journey into and through madness. The Suffering: The Ties That Bind is going to land on the Xbox, PS2, and PC this fall.
The new Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows remains mostly the same as the previous games except for one major improvement. That improvement is online play, and Xbox, PS2, and PC owners will be able to take their hack and slash skills online this winter.
Midway?s Arcade Treasures have always been welcome editions to the video game industry. Arcade Treasures 3 is bound to be the best and most nostalgic yet. Stun Runner, Hydro Thunder, and Super Off Road are just a few of the classics you?ll be able to relive on this disk. Look for it on all consoles and PC this fall.
L.A. Rush is the latest title in the Rush franchise. This version allows players to race, modify, and steal over 50 types of cars. The vehicles were designed by West Coast Customs and Rides Magazine. The speed of the game has also gotten an overhaul; nitro boosts send you hurtling towards the finish line, but crashes hit harder than ever. L.A. Rush will be released this winter.
Midway is venturing into the ancient world with its new title Rise and Fall: Civilizations at War. The battle scenes in this game are the kind to remind you of those in Troy or Gladiator. The Titan 2.0 engine that powers this game is the leading next generation engine designed specifically for 3D RTS games. The developers have obviously put it to good use here. While leading your armies into epic battles, you can zoom down onto the battlefield and take control of a hero, say Julius Caesar or Alexander the Great, and fight in a third person mode wherever you see fit. This ability to single-handedly turn the tides of war is one to look forward to. We?ll all be able to try it out this winter on PC.
Chow Yun-Fat fans rejoice: Stranglehold is being developed in tandem with John Woo and is going to receive voice talent from the aforementioned super action star. The choreographed fight scenes that made Woo famous will be bountiful in this game, and the preview video of it looks like it?s been taken right out of one of his movies. Watch out for this one in 2006. |
