I had the pleasure, a few years back, of receiving some Olympus Eye-Treks for review. They were really cool, but they merely replaced a standard display and audio. eMagin's new Z800 3D Visor strives to bring a whole lot more to your favorite gaming PC.

The Z800 has two high-contrast eMagin SVGA 3D OLED microdisplays that can deliver fluid full-motion video in over 16.7 million colors. It also features a responsive head-tracking system; want to see what's behind you? Simply turn around to look at it.

Weight has traditionally been an issue with head mounted display units, and the Z800 has handled that pretty well, weighing in at a mere 8 oz.

The technology used in the Z800 3D Visor allows it to have no flicker and no screen smear. This is accomplished with eMagin's patented OLED-on-silicon technology that enhances the inherently fast refresh rates of OLED materials with on-chip signal processing and data buffering at each pixel site. This allows each pixel to continuously emit only the colors they are programmed to show.

In addition to gaming applications, the Z800 can also simulate multiple monitors. Designers, publishers and engineers can view multiple drawings and renderings as if they were each laid out on an artist's table - even in 3D.

The Z800 3D Visor also features hi-quality stereo audio and a built-in noise-canceling microphone system to create a fully immersive experience. You can now have virtual reality in your home.

Check back for an in-depth review when we get a Z800 in-house for some extensive hands-on evaluation.
