Helicopters are all the rage in war games these days and 1C is using that energy to create Whirlwind of Vietnam. This Vietnam War helicopter sim puts players inside one of three helicopters during the conflict in Southeast Asia. The most famous conflicts will be relived from the Americans? point of view in movie-style fashion.
Whirlwind of Vietnam is not only going to be one of the most realistic helicopter sims out there, it is also going to be easily played by those who like quick, arcade type skirmishes. The missions can be played with all the realism setting turned on high, or they can be set to a more manageable level.
Three helicopters will be available: the Huey, the Cobra, and a med-evac type helicopter. All will be historically accurate in terms of mechanical functions and armaments. Every position on each helicopter will be able to be controlled by the player, so if a strafing run is in order you can let the computer take the stick as you take the .50 cal.
Whirlwind of Vietnam is a long way off from completion, but the early stuff we?ve seen looks great. The draw in rate is superb, something very important when you?re flying around in a helicopter. The forests are coming along nicely, and the gameplay looks like it could rival that of IL-2 Sturmovik. Look for it sometime in 2006.
