With the announcement of the Wii, several developers are looking at their portfolio of upcoming games and seeing how the unique control of the Wii-mote can help to enhance the experience of playing. While there’s always going to be one or two developers who will try to horseshoe the mechanics into a game, several are taking the initiative and really trying something new. One of the better examples of this is the Wii version of Madden 07; a series that seemingly has been around since the beginning of the industry and is getting a new feel thanks to the Wii-mote.

EA is embracing the Wii-mote’s capabilities and really turning Madden 07 into a new experience. Pulling back on the Wii-mote snaps the ball while a tilting it forward passes. This mechanic alone adds a completely different feel to the game. Rather than having the pressure behind your button press determine the strength of your throw, the force behind the tilt will. When running, flicking the “nunchuck” component left and right jukes, while doing the same on the Wii-mote stiff arms.

Visually, Madden 07 on Wii looks improved over the current-generation of games, though it doesn’t quite hit the looks seen in the 360 version. Rather than use the graphics engine used by the 360 and PS3, Wii is using a modified version of the current engine. So, while it may not look as good as the other versions it still looks good.

Madden 07 is slated for release this August.
