ATARI also showed off two new DBZ games, Super DBZ and Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 at this year's E3.
Budokai Tenkaichi 2, the sequel to last year's fighter, is planned for release on both the PS2 and the Wii. With over 100 playable characters and 15 different fighting arenas, the game's story will span both the DBZ and Dragon Ball GT story lines. The version of Tenkaichi 2 that will come out for Nintendo's next-gen system will require players to mimic signature moves in order to perform them. Imagine not just hitting a two or three button combo to perform the Kamehameha wave, but actually sweeping your hands around and pulling them back just like Goku does in the series. ATARI hopes that this will help players get off the couch and really get into the game. Tenkaichi 2 also allows users to see the characters' various transformations as they morph into Super Sayans or other different forms. Previous games involved a bright flash of light and an instance model switchout, but now you will actually see Vegeta's hair turn red as he goes into SS4.
Meanwhile, Super DBZ tries to take a more arcade feel to the licence. All 18 characters have unique combos that are easy to pull off and look great. Super DBZ was developed by NAMCO BANDAI Games and the development team includes several members of the classic Street Fighter II arcade game. Super DBZ is ATARI's attempt to bring non Dragon Ball fans into the fold be providing a classic arcade feel to the fighter.
With these two new titles, ATARI has introduced a total of 24 DBZ games. These latest two look like they will be at the top of that list. |
