Funcom sported some pretty high profile games this year with Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, as well as a new expansion pack for Anarchy Online, Anarchy Online: Lost Eden.

Dungeons & Dragons, The Lord of the Rings, the MMO world is filling up with its first licensed games. Funcom is getting in on the action as well with Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures. The first mainstream MMO to be developed from the ground up for mature players, Age of Conan stands poised to break many established MMO rules and God bless them for it.

Age of Conan attempts to be a very story-driven experience. The game will boast an extensive single player campaign before immersing players in the challenge of the MMO experience. Whether players will be forced to play through this single player aspect first is as of yet unclear.

Yes, the graphics are pretty, the sound is crisp, and both PvP and PvE gameplay is offered, but it is the unconventional aspects that make the game sound truly compelling. One highlighted feature is the Real Combat engine, where players can pinpoint specific body areas during combat, in real time. Age of Conan will break some rules, the only question left is whether or not it can do so successfully.

Some time ago, The Longest Journey reinvigorated the adventure game genre with its attractive visuals and compelling story. Dreamfall: The Longest Journey will continue the story started in the original. Unlike many classic adventure games, there is no one obscure way to solve a problem. Dreamfall will feature multiple characters and a variety of gameplay options to suit various play styles. Do you want to behave like a jerk, then behave like a jerk. If you prefer to use your brain, fists, or speech to get through puzzles, take your pick.

As for Anarchy Online: Lost Eden, details are still sparse, but the expansion will incorporate dynamic advertisements provided by Massive Entertainment.
