.hack// G.U. vol. 3//Redemption is the final chapter in the current .hack// G.U. trilogy. Redemption will complete the current storyline as well as introduce a number of changes and features – something the second game was criticized for not doing.

One of the first changes comes with the introduction of Haseo’s “Xth” form when an unknown hacker accesses Haseo’s character data on The World’s servers and modifies it. As a result, Haseo is able to access a new set of powers that normal characters in the game shouldn’t be able to access. One of his primary upgrades is a new set of weapons that resemble pistols with scythe blades attached.

The modification to Haseo’s file comes just as the entity infecting the servers manages to escape into the real world. With the entity affecting two realities, Haseo and his party must find a way to restore balance to both.

Another new power is a data drain that grabs cores from enemies. These can later be spent on upgrades. You’ll also get around The World using a new steam bike. The number of characters has been bumped to 22 and the level cap has been cranked up to 150.

In addition to new abilities, Redemption will also offer a new set of towns to explore. A few locales will be reused from other games in the series, though it won’t be a complete retread. One of the new locations is the Net Slum, which is The World’s seedy underbelly. New dungeons will also be included, like a 100-floor dungeon that only the best parties will be able to complete.

.hack// G.U. vol. 3//Redemption will ship later this year.
