Star Wars: Battlefront was one of the best selling PSP games ever, so it's shouldn't be too surprising that LucasArts has created a sequel, Star Wars: Battlefront: Renegade Squadron.

Battlefront: Renegade Squadron gets its name from the fact that it is about Han Solo's Rebel Strike Team. While it strives to be true to the original Battlefront gameplay, it has some enhancements and interesting differences from Battlefront. For instance, Renegade Squadron will have a single player story campaign, something that was lacking in the original. Also, Renegade Squadron will feature Auto Targeting and Auto Docking, to help along those who are not as strong with the Force.

In order to allow for customization as well as high approachability, Renegade Squadron allows you to customize a character by choosing their colors and appearance - or - use a pre-existing character and just jump right into the game. The accent colors you choose for your character is also "inherited" or reflected in your ships' customizations, allowing you to more easily recognize your player.

To allow you to customize your attacks a bit, you will be able to tweak you forces as you're playing; at respawn points, you can re-allocate abilities for missions. Also, in Battlefront: Renegade Squadron, for the first time in a portable version, you will be able to enter the large ships and attack on the inside.

There are a lot of subtle changes to gameplay, but it seems like they're improvements, rather than detriments. Only time will tell, but it's definitely looking good. Battlefront: Renegade Squadron is shipping October 2007, exclusively for the PSP.
