Although it's a long way off from release, Sony Online Entertainment was showing a very cool gameplay video from their upcoming online action shooter for the PS3 and PC, The Agency.
The Agency places the player into the ultra-elite world of the super spy, complete with cool gadgets, exotic locations, slick cars and lots of killer weapons. You'll begin by first choosing your side - a UNITE spy or a ParaGON mercenary. There isn't necessarily a clear good or bad side to be on. Only missions which define the player.
As you progress in the game, you will increase your influence within the agency and eventually, you'll have your own agency. Along with this, you'll recruit Operatives, who will basically wait to assist you. If you want that incredibly fine sports car, assign that job to one of your Operatives and he'll build it for you. A week later, he'll alert you that it's ready. There will also be use of email and IM by your Operatives in game to increase the realism. You could be headed home on your daily commute and get an email or IM that your sportscar is ready. Your Operatives will always be hard at work, day and night, regardless of whether or not you are logged in.
One cool aspect is that "You Are What You Where" in the game. In other words, there aren't classes, per se. You equip exactly what you need for the mission at hand, be it stealth, combat or support. And if you get tired of the high-pressure life of a spy, there are other activities to participate in. Engage other players in cards at a table, at a shooting range or in head-to-head combat.
This game has a really cool vibe to it and sort of reminded me of the days of No One Lives Forever. This is definitely one to watch for and looks like it will be well worth the wait.
