While still in the early stages of development, we got a sneak peek at the upcoming Wii and DS game Mushroom Men, being developed by Red Fly Studios and let's just say that it looks interesting, to say the least.
This title has a very unique art style that is reminescent of Oddworld and that's a really good thing. The story goes that a comet passes and leaves in its wake a peculiar green dust. While the remnants appear not to have had an effect on anything, they actually have awakened a consciousness in varying species of plants and as such, certain ones have formed tribes. Namely, the mushrooms. And so the battle begins. Think edible mushrooms versus poisonous mushrooms.
This war rages on in our world, but unbeknownst to humans, since it's all too small for us to see. Some of the concept art I saw included things like railroads for the mushroom men with the railroad ties having been made from things like toothpicks. Realism, but on a tiny scale, if you will.
There will be 10 levels to be explored in this oversized world and you can adventure on your own or team up in co-op play. You'll be able to create innovative weapons out of everyday materials found around you and enlist assistance from other plants such as the kudzu. Who ever heard of kudzu being helpful? Well, you'll find it here!
Mainly, I was excited about this game because it is so damn cool looking. I love the artistic style and can see this being a really unique title. Look for it in mid-to-late 2008.
