...or, at least, on your gameboard. SCEA's Eye of Judgment is a novel sort of game: it's a collectible card game - literally - for a console. Utilizing the Eye-Toy for the PS3, now called simply the PlayStation Eye, Eye of Judgment actually watches as specially marked cards are placed into play on the gameboard. The PS3 can determine what card was placed where and what its orientation is. Assuming the move was a valid one, the placed card causes an appropriate action to occur in the game; forces may be placed on the board, existing forces may be instructed to attack again or you may reorient existing pieces. After new units are placed, if there is an attack to take place, the game switches into an animated attack sequence that illustrates how the battle plays out. Finally, if any units are killed, they become illegally placed cards, as they must be removed from the board. Any time there are illegal placements on the board, the game displays a note to this affect and waits until the illegal placements are resolved by removing them from the board.

The added benefits you get from playing Eye of Judgement versus some other CCG that doesn't require a console, are the sound effects, the visual effects and that little extra assist if you get a little confused as to what is supposed to happen next. Eye of Judgment is a great CCG for younger kids who might need the extra explanation of what's to be done, or video gamers who don't get excited about a deck of cards. It's also there for those who simply think it's a cool idea.

One thing to remember is that Eye of Judgment is truly a collectible card game. That means that, although everyone starts with the same cards in the starter set that comes in the box, there will also be booster packs with random assortments of varied cards to build your strategies from. SCEA seemed to be fairly concerned with copy protection for the cards and, as such, they weren't letting anyone take any pictures of the cards. The cards have special symbols on them in arrangements which are designed to indicate to the PS3 which cards they are, what their orientation is and whether they are, in fact, authentic cards. Not only that, but once you get the game, you will register your packs and the game, knowing what cards you have, will deal your cards to you. No cheating that way!

Eye of Judgment will include the software disc, two starter packs, a cloth play-mat and a special camera mount that is designed to hold the PlayStation Eye in the appropriate place when playing the game.
