Why We Are at Comic-Con

As an independent game review website, all of our reviewers, and even our owners, have day jobs. These are the jobs that pay the bills, the ones that let us spend our free time playing and reviewing games.

What this means is that we have to take time off in order to attend events and conventions. As a result, we attend E3 because that is the main trade show that is most important to the videogame industry.

Over the years, we've attended other conventions. We've covered GDC, PAX, Microsoft's Tech Ed and for the past two years, the New Orleans Comic-Con. While we have wanted for years now to send someone to San Diego's Comic-Con International, it just hasn't been possible, both because of work schedules and, quite frankly, money.

Well, we are happy to actually be able to attend this year, thanks to our friends at Activision. Because of a press event taking place just before Comic-Con International opens its doors, we not only had the opportunity to send one of our reviewers to San Diego during the show's days, but Activision was kind enough to offer passes to the show.

I am writing this article not only to explain why we are covering an event we haven't had a chance to cover before, but as a form of full disclosure.

While Activision is doing us a big favor and offering a great opportunity, we would like our readers to know that we do our best to be unbiased and fair in all of our reviews. This includes Activision, and given how well publishing companies can treat the press they fly out to see their latest games, it is our responsability as journalists to be sure that we take extra care to be fair with their products.

So, what can you expect from our coverage of Comic-Con International 2012? Well, that's hard to say. It is rare when we cover an event of this size with only a single reviewer. Not only that, but having never attended this particular event, we don't know what to expect from the show itself. As a result, we've opted for a slightly different approach from a typical event.

We are going to take a more photojournalistic approach, with articles going up about the best of what we see in a rolling blog-like fashion, but most of our coverage will be photos taken at the panels and on the showroom floor.

What's great is that, thanks to a newly purchased gadget, we will be uploading these pictures almost as soon as they are taken. The Eye-Fi Wireless Flash Memory Card replaces the SD card in your camera and connects to a wireless network to upload the pictures to your chosen social network. In order to provided as frequent updates as possible, we've set the Eye-Fi to connect to Game Vortex's Flickr account. Using Flickr's built-in slideshow feature, those images are set to appear on the front page of our Comic-Con coverage.

So, once again, thank you Activision and don't worry loyal readers, we will continue to provide fair and unbiased coverage of all of the products that comes across our desks.
