The main product that Logitech was showing at E3 2009 was their Logitech Flight System G940. The G940 is just that, too: a flight system. This goes way beyond a simple flight stick.
Of course, you do get a flight stick. The G940 features a force feedback joystick with the expected hat switches and buttons. It also features a dual throttle console with a split throttle design that lets you use the two throttle levers separately or lock them together to use as a single throttle lever. The throttle console also features eight rectangular buttons that can be illuminated red, green or blue or turned off by the game, allowing them to serve as status indicators for their associated systems, much like control panels in real aircraft. The G940 also features a rudder pedal console with toe brakes. This is useful in times when precise rudder control is needed, such as when playing a helicopter sim.
One nice feature of the G940 is that all of the consoles feature mounting holes, allowing for easy and sturdy integration into a cockpit, for those of you who might be building a flight simulator cockpit.
The G940 has a suggested retail price of $299.99 USD and should arrive on store shelves this September, just in time for the flight enthusiast on your gift list. |
