The MTV booth was made up to look like the Beatles' Abbey Road Studio, which was fitting, as The Beatles: Rock Band was their showcased jewel at E3 2009.
The Beatles: Rock Band is a stand-alone version of Rock Band that has been retro-fitted, if you will, to suit the Beatles license. Beatles fans can rejoice, however, as it looks like MTV has made good use of the license.
First of all, the biggest change in gameplay is that The Beatles: Rock Band actually supports three-part harmony (using three microphones), while still allowing three instruments (guitar, bass and drums). Due to the increased difficulty in harmonizing with others, the scoring system won't score players negatively unless the main vocal isn't being covered. This means that players can try the harmonies when they feel up to it, or they can all sing along with the main vocal, if they prefer. For those who really want to work up a Beatles cover-band act, the Practice mode allows you to clearly identify each of the vocal parts and practice a specific one, if desired.
The venues and/or backgrounds have been created to compliment the Beatles theme, recreating famous venues that the Beatles played during their touring years and creating interesting, song-themed visuals for songs from their studio-band years, beginning in the studio, then, in the case of Octopus's Garden, turning the studio into an undersea paradise, as CG animated versions of the Beatles play on.
Accompanying the release of the game will be a limited number of new controllers modeled after iconic instruments used by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr throughout their careers. Specifically, there will be John Lennon’s Rickenbacker 325 guitar, Sir Paul McCartney’s trademark Höfner bass, George Harrison’s
Gretsch Duo Jet guitar and Ringo Starr’s drums with classic black oyster pearl finish and Ludwig-branded Beatles kick drum head. These controllers are compatible with all Rock Band games. Likewise, the existing Rock Band controllers can be used with The Beatles: Rock Band.
The Beatles: Rock Band will be released simultaneously in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and other territories for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii on Sept. 9, 2009. |
