One of SEGA and Rebellion's newest titles is the latest installment in the Aliens vs. Predator series. So once again, Space Marines are trapped between the proverbial rock (Predators) and a hard place (Aliens). What is nice about this newest AvP title is that it is essentially three games in one.

Taking place about 30 years after Alien 3, the corporation has been excavating near a colony and has discovered ancient Predator ruins. In these ruins, they have also discovered some Alien eggs, and as you would expect, the eggs hatch, breed and the colony becomes overrun with another infestation of bugs. So a squad of Space Marines are sent in to investigate. And to make matters worse for the humans, when the Predator ruins were discovered, the crab-faced hunters were apparently alerted, so naturally they are on their way to the planet as well.

That's the basic setup this time that gets all three races on one planet, but like I said above, what makes Aliens vs. Predator a real treat is the fact that it has three different, intertwining stories. Yup, that's right, you can play through a Space Marine storyline, an Alien storyline and a Predator storyline. While the stories will each be able to stand on their own, major, key events from the overall story will be seen in all three. Details about how exactly these stories would be related couldn't be revealed at the time, but our imaginations started running a bit wild when we heard what the game had to give.

Not only will each race have its own story, but because of the nature of the races and how they fight, the games themselves will have drastically different feels. For instance, the Space Marine storyline will be much closer to a survival horror (with more ammo). You will have to keep an eye on the dark spaces all around you (above and below) since both of the other races like to use the shadows to their advantage. The Predator storyline had a much more standard FPS feel to it, but since most of the hunter-race's weapons were close-ranged, you can expect a lot more melee combat than your standard shooter. The final race's gameplay style also couldn't be revealed at the show. We were told that darkness is definitely not a problem for the bugs and neither is running around on walls. From what few screenshots we have of their gameplay, it looks like the Alien's tail is a major weapon.

This new Aliens vs. Predator title is slated to come out for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in the first half of 2010.
