Pins Will Roll! Brunswick Pro Bowling Coming From Crave

The revival of legendary bowling brand Brunswick is looking good in Crave's new title Brunswick Pro Bowling, launching on PS3 this Fall. We took the chance to sample Sony's new Move controllers and give the game a whirl on the show floor at E3, and liked what we saw. Where too many realistic bowling games have fallen prey to simulation fever, Brunswick Pro Bowling keeps it real but makes things accessible. Perhaps it's the addition of a next-gen motion controller, but we found the throws easier than anything we've sampled in the past on Wii. The downside is that you can't just flick your wrist and expect to send the ball flying; in Brunswick Pro Bowling you'll really need to wind up and get that arm moving, if you intend to build up some momentum. We were extremely happy with how the game controlled, and there were good things on display in terms of gameplay.

Brunswick Pro Bowling includes six venues, and 30 licensed balls that have signature oil patterns supplied directly by Brunswick. Multiplayer is available with flexibility for play sessions against computer or human opponents at any time during your career. Unlockable rewards, online head-to-head matches, and leaderboards are going to keep aspiring pinheads busy once this game comes out. We saw three minigames that will be included, two focused on card-based competitions such as "Bowling Poker," while the third is a more standard "Strikes & Spares" variation. The PS3 launch will be coupled with the launch of the Sony Move, and the team at Crave will be announcing DLC that is in the works now, as we get closer to the release date.

It's a simple enough concept, but we're excited about a chance to find more realism in our bowling games, without getting lost in character customizations, endless galleries of colored balls, and fantasy lanes. There needs to be enough fun stuff to keep things interesting and playful, but the actual bowling action also has to be top notch. Chalk it up to the new Move system, and to skilled development, but Brunswick Pro Bowling feels like a great implementation of America's favorite boozy, smokey sport. There's no official word yet on launches for other next-gen titles, but we have a suspicion that a Kinect version lies somewhere in the not-so-distant future.
