Omega Force's Trinity: Souls of Zill O'll is an action role-playing game that doesn't force you to play alone. Quite the opposite, actually; it forces you to play as a self-controlled team. You'll journey the continent of Vyashion, a land where humans, elves, and vampires must set their differences aside and rise up against the evil King Balor.

When the E3 demo starts up, it's hard to differentiate Trinity from other hack-and-slash action RPGs. It's going to feature quest lines and diversions, as well as a deep narrative. It's easy to appreciate the parchment aesthetic that filters the visuals. It looks like this game is a dark fairytale come to life, and I mean that quite literally. As the warrior, the wizard, and the assassin make their way through the world, this visual touch holds up nicely and doesn't get in the way of the gameplay.

Trinity gets its name from the fact that the player can switch seamlessly between Areus (the wizard), Dagda (the warrior) and Selene (the assassin). This is extremely helpful; different situations call for different combat styles, and the situations tend to change on the fly. For example, at one point during the E3 demo, the party is attacked by a number of reptilian-looking skeletons near a lake. I switch characters and unleash an area-of-effect ice spell. The lake immediately freezes over and the enemies are temporarily entombed in ice. From there, the best strategy is to switch to Dagda. With the tap of a button, the grotesquely-ripped hero tears into a spinning clothesline, obliterating all of the frozen enemies. A few skeletons have escaped Dagda's wrath, so I switch to Selene. The speed that comes with being a vampire is instrumental in the end of this fight. The possibilities seem endless; as long as the circumstances are right, you can turn one character's swath of destruction into a whirlwind of melee, magic, and aerial combos. Experimentation will reward the player; puzzle-solving sequences often call for a number of character switches before the party can proceed to the next area.

Trinity: Souls of Zill O'll isn't coming out anytime soon, and there's a marked scarcity of information regarding the PlayStation 3 exclusive at the moment. However, we hope to bring you more information as the game's release date approaches.
