3DS Launch Line-Up is EPIC

Nintendo dropped a bombshell during its E3 2010 press conference. The company officially unveiled their new handheld, the Nintendo 3DS, with a long list of third-party developers eager to make games for the device.

Nintendo first announced a new Kid Icarus game which should prove to long-time fans how serious they are about their new handheld. Listening to their fans and developer feedback, Nintendo has a made a portable 3-D device without the need of special glasses. While still looking similar to the existing DS design, the 3DS will sport a wide-screen display on top and an analog stick for more accurate gaming controls. On the side of the top-screen, Nintendo included a slider to control the 3-D effect for those who wish to play with the effect turned off. Judging by the brief gameplay clips during a montage reel, the 3DS is a major graphical leap in hardware over the previous DS (and maybe even the Wii.)

The list of developers already making a commitment to the new handheld is truly impressive: Activison, Atlus, Namco/Bandai, Capcom, EA, Harmonix, Hudson, Konami, Tecmo/KOEI, Level 5, Majesco, Marvelous, Square Enix, Sega, TOMY, Take Two, THQ, Ubisoft, and WB Games have all been announced as in development on some game property.

As far as announced games are concerned, Nintendo obviously showed off their games first: Kid Icarus and Nintendogs + cats were the first games revealed. There will also be a new Professor Layton game as well as other titles like DJ Hero 3-D, Kingdom Hearts 3-D, Saints Row, Madden, Dead or Alive 3-D, Ninja Gaiden, Ridge Racer, Samurai Warriors, Street Fighter IV, Resident Evil, and Metal Gear Solid.

That doesn’t include the rumor that Nintendo is going back and making their own 3-D versions of StarFox 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I do believe Nintendo could have the best launch line-up in history, if this is true.

Nintendo has not announced a date or a price for the 3DS at this time.
