Character Mash Up

On of my favorite things as a kid, and even now, was the “character team-up.” Even if I’m not a fan of the show, whenever I hear or see a episode where characters from one show are crossing over to another, I feel compelled to watch. Apparently Disney likes the idea as well.

Disney Channel All-Star Party is a Wii-exclusive party game featuring the biggest stars in the Disney Channel line-up, including Wizards of Waverly Place, Jonas L.A., Sonny with a Chance, Hannah Montana and my personal favorite, Phineas & Ferb.

The game is split into seven sections themed after each of the seven shows represented in the game. In our demo, we immediately went to Phineas and Ferb’s location, offering up a really cool 3D version of their backyard, ground zero for their invention’s wacky results. All seven locations were immediately recognizable from the TV shows and full of little details for fans to pick out. The locale showcased a few inventions directly from the show, as well as a sneaky Perry the Platypus lurking around the edge of the screen.

All-Star Party lets players play through mini-games as their favorite show characters, or unlock their Mii character and drop them into the game. In Story Mode, players will travel to each area and compete in over 30 mini-games that fit with each area. For instance, we looked at a robot mini-game in the Phineas & Ferb section where players need to use the controller to scoop up robot parts from an assembly line and build the most robots first. Competing a robot netted a few points while matching the correct parts earned a bonus.

Games are also available in four-player multiplayer. Additionally, there’s a leaderboard to help keep track of individual stats for each game.

Disney Channel All-Star Party is set for release this Fall.
