Video E3-wind: Epic Mickey with Warren Spector

E3 2010 may be a fading memory for most gamers, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to end.

For me, one of the more enjoyable, and enlightening, moments of the entire show came as a complete surprise. Fellow staffer Jon (FenixDown) and I are big Disney fans and have been pretty high on Disney Epic Mickey from the start. When Disney Interactive offered a special hands-on breakout session with the game, we jumped at the chance. Little did we know our “hands-on breakout” would actually turn out to be a discussion with designer Warren Spector.

In our half-hour meeting, we were able to learn a lot about the game, including its early origins and where the team at Junction Point hopes to go with the game’s design. We were also able to discuss the role of story in games, as well as how Disney Epic Mickey relates to the idea of empowering players.

We’d like to share some of the highlights of the discussion with you, so enjoy. Special thanks to Warren Spector for his time and to Disney Interactive for providing us with this opportunity.
