Play With the Ultimatrix

Ben 10 Ultimate Alien is the third series to follow Ben and his alien-morphing abilities, and this time he not only has a mixture of old and new forms at his disposal, but the ability to morph some of then into ultimate forms as well.

Ultimate Alien takes place not long after the Alien Force series where Ben's secret identity has been revealed. While the show has to deal with Ben balancing his new popularity with his duty to protect the earth, I'm not sure the game, Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: Cosmic Destruction, will go into quite that much depth. Instead, you will be using Ben's new Ultimatrix to stop a new evil force, a shadowy figure causing a cosmic storm.

While Ben has some of his older aliens at his side like Spitfire, Spidermonkey, Echo Echo and Big Chill, there are also few new guys as well. These are characters like the energy-based alien called NRG, the robotic driller called Armodrillo and a water-based alien named WaterHazard. Of course, the main twist to Ultimate Alien is the ability to super-size some of Ben's forms, but because of the super-powered nature of these aliens, Griptonite Games (for the console and PSP versions) and Papaya Studio (for the DS) felt the need to balance things out a bit by regulating when you can change into these overly-powerful characters.

The PSP, PS3, PS2 and 360 versions of Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: Cosmic Destruction only let you trigger these big guys as you approach one of the more cinematic scenes, typically a boss battle. You will get prompted by a series of quicktime events. Unlike most games though, you get a choice, and that choice determines which character you turn into. The first quicktime event in a sequence might let you choose between NRG, Spidermonkey and Big Chill and you perform a set move with that character (read: scripted event), and then you are presented with another choice. At the end of the sequence, you won't have a choice, but simply get prompted to hit a particular button and change into whichever character that button represents. From there, Ben transforms into the Ultimate version of that alien. In the demo we got to play, the character of choice was a supped-up slider monkey, and he was an awesome force to use against the wave of enemies being thrown at us.

The DS version handles things a bit differently. Here, you will have a meter to build up and once its full, you can call upon an Ultimate version of an alien to simply clear the screen of all enemies at once.

Both versions of the game were easy to simply pick up and play, and while the demo team couldn't reveal who the creator of the cosmic storm was, they did hint that it was one of Ben's previous forms, and I can't think of too many that are connected to cosmic radiation. In fact, there is only one big one that comes to mind. Look for all of these versions to hit the streets this October.
