Guncon Not Required

Needless to say, this year’s E3 was about two things, 3D and motion sensitivity. Well, Namco/Bandai has found the perfect title to pair the PlayStation Move with, and its Time Crisis.

In Time Crisis: Razing Storm, you don’t have to worry about going out of your way and purchasing a Guncon 3, since the newest arcade adaptation will be able to work with both peripherals. I did notice however that there is a drastic decrease in accuracy with the PlayStation Move, but if you want to be uber-precise, you are probably the type to favor the Guncon anyway, or heck, you might already have it from Time Crisis 4.

Razing Storm presents a few new modes of gameplay. One mode lets you go online with up to eight players in both co-op and head-to-head matches. This online feature is a first for the series and is sure to draw some interest by both long-time Time Crisis fans and online-gamers, especially those who have a PlayStation Move.

Another fun mode is called Sentry. Here you and your partner will take on wave after wave of prisoners as they attempt to break free (an event that apparently happens early in the Story Mode). This was the mode we got to try out at the show. Here, you and your partner are equipped with unlimited ammo (or at least there wasn’t a limit when we played), and a riot shield. Holding down a button on the Move lowers the shield, and pulling the trigger button underneath the wand fired your weapon. It was nice to have the bit of always-ready cover, and using the Move felt pretty good in the fights, but I have to say, I was missing my Guncon quite a bit. If it wasn’t for the unlimited ammo, I know I would have been in trouble fast.

To sweeten the deal, Time Crisis: Razing Storm comes with two other games compatible with both the Guncon and PlayStation Move. These are the aforementioned Time Crisis 4, and a newly released arcade title called Deadstorm Pirates. This new title will take the shooting fun to the high seas as you take the helm and cannons in search for Poseidon's Breath.

Look for Time Crisis: Razing Storm and its companion games this Fall. It is unclear at this time if a copy of the game will be packaged with the PlayStation Move, or if it will simply have a standard retail box (unlike past Time Crisis games that have been packaged with the Guncon).
