Nyko is On the Move

The gaming hardware market moves fast, and if you're in that business, you have to move fast, too. Therefore, I suppose it shouldn't be too surprising that Nyko was showing off prototypes of the Charge Station for Move and the Charge Station Quad for Move at E3 this year. It was surprising, mind you, but I should have expected it.

Before I was able to touch a single PlayStation Move controller under the watchful eyes of Sony PlayStation personnel, I was holding in my hands a peripheral that was designed to hold them, upright, to charge them.

The Charge Station for Move is designed to hold your PlayStation Move controllers upright and display them while recharging their internal batteries. The Charge Station is designed to hold two Move controllers - either Move Motion Controllers or Move Navigation Controllers or one of each. There are separate LED charge indicator lights to indicate whether the controllers are done charging or not.

For those with more players, less downtime, or who simply want to stock up on PlayStation Move controllers, the Charge Station Quad for Move is functionally similar to the Charge Station, but has room for up to four Move controllers - again, in any combination of Move Motion Controllers or Move Navigation Controllers. The Quad has four charging indicators, one for each station. The prototype shown at E3 , as shown in the second picture, is a bit more slimline than the Charge Station, but this may change slightly before units hit shelves, as the rounded cups seen in the Charge Station for Move do a better job of holding the PlayStation Move controllers still and upright to avoid wear and tear on the charging ports.

Both the Charge Station and the Charge Station Quad are powered with AC plugs (with external transformers, or "wall warts"), rather than plugging into the back of your PS3. This frees up USB ports for other things (*cough* Rock Band 3 *cough*) and puts less wear and tear on your PS3 console.
