That's Pretty, Hot and Tempting, as Franklin Hatchett would point out. While the PS3 Slim is already sexy for all of its sleek compactitude, it leaves something to be desired in the functionality department... specifically, those "extra" features that Sony decided no one really cared about anyway when they decided to toss them out.

One thing that seemed a bit strange to throw out was, of course, the USB ports. With Nyko's Media Hub Slim, you double the provided USB ports from two to four, allowing for additional wired controllers, MP3 players, flash drives, keyboards, drums, guitars or even the occasional mouse. There are a lot of things you can plug into these USB ports, so two seems a bit... limiting.

The Media Hub Slim also features a built-in SD Card and Sony Memory Stick reader to allow you to move your favorite files around between compatible devices, such as PSPs, cameras and computers.

Included with the Media Hub Slim is a 15 button "credit card" remote to allow for easy control of movies, music, photos and other entertainment applications. Additionally, the IR receiver in the Media Hub Slim can be used with programmable remotes. This is a nice feature, since the PS3's Bluetooth controllers tend to leave the PS3 high and dry when trying to use a single programmable remote for all of your devices. The Media Hub Slim's IR receiver and 15 button remote gives you the ability to train your favorite universal learning programmable remote (such as the Harmony) to control the PS3, as well. You would still have to power-on the PS3 using a PS3 controller (or other Bluetooth remote), but this is definitely one step closer to the perfect solution.

Another consideration with electronics is that smaller packages can mean less ventilation - which is never good for electronics. For this reason, Nyko has designed an Intercooler specifically for the PS3 Slim, called the Intercooler Slim. The Intercooler Slim features three fans, controlled by a variable fan speed potentiometer to allow for easy control of the fans' speed and turns on and off, automatically, with the unit. Designed to fit on the back of the PS3 Slim, the Intercooler Slim continues its curved shape, and utilize a power pass-through system to avoid additional wires or complexity in design and is usable in horizontal or vertical console orientation.

While we're on the topic of the PS3 Slim and its vertical orientation option, the reduction in size resulted in a reduction in footprint when vertical. This adds up to less stability. Nyko doesn't usually make vertical stands, but they felt that the PS3 Slim called for a bit of precaution. The Vertical Stand from Nyko is designed to allow you to safely display and use your PS3 Slim in its vertical orientation, by adding support, an enlarged footprint and rubber feet. The Vertical Stand has a sleek, carbon-fiber finish which complements the black coloring of the PS3 Slim and has a sophisticated look that should fit in with higher-end entertainment centers. The Vertical Stand was carefully designed to avoid blocking any ports on the back of the PS3 Slim.
