Hudson’s venerable bomb-dropping mascot, Bomberman, is making his way back to digital stores with Bomberman LIVE: Battlefest for Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and Wii Ware this year.

Everyone’s favorite arsonist, Bomberman, is back with a few new tricks after his last outing, Bomberman LIVE, wowed critics and won industry awards. This is the same Bomberman you know and love, but with more arenas, all new team play features, and online battles - this Bomberman just got a whole lot sassier with deep customization options to make your bombing brawler unique. Add glasses, costumes, jackets, or even choose to use your Xbox Live Avatar to blast your friends during intense online sessions and prove who among your friends has the bomb-est Bomberman.

Some of the new gameplay modes included in Battlefest are Capture the Flag, VIP, Bankroll, and a new addition from previous games: Capture the Crown. In Capture the Crown, a jeweled crown is set in the middle of the stage and each player dukes it out to hold onto the crown for as long as they can before being blown away. New weapon power-ups are also included like laser bombs which act like proximity mines, rocket bombs, and cluster bombs which leave behind multiple smaller bombs when it explodes.

There is definitely something satisfying about blowing up your friends and seeing the cute little bodies go up in a puff of smoke. The original Bomberman LIVE went on to sell 500,000 copies and because the Bomberman series is known around my house as the “get-together” game, I see Bomberman LIVE: Battlefest doing just fine. I might even have to make my brother pick this up so I can blow him up again and again and again.
