Grease is the Word!

505 Games and Paramount Digital Entertainment have partnered up to bring a new generation the fantastic songs and iconic moments of the hit movie Grease in the form of a video game on the Wii and DS. While the karaoke aspect of Grease is obvious, 505 Games hopes to bring so much more to the table in a family-friendly game that can be played by parents and kids alike.

In the Wii version, you’ll step into the saddle oxfords of the kids from Rydell High: Sandy, Danny, Frenchie, Kenickie, Rizzo and the other T-Birds and Pink Ladies, as they work their way through the famous scenes from the film. Whether it’s fixing up Greased Lightnin’ or doing the hand jive, racing down Thunder Road or playing carnival games at the Rydell Graduation Carnival, there promises to be plenty to do during your time at Rydell. Instead of going for realism, the game designers took a more playful approach and made the characters very stylized cartoons. Fortunately, they used the master tracks for the songs because any Grease purist can tell you there simply is no substitution.

The Wii version will be compatible with the microphones and motion control, plus the balance board, and you can plug in two Wii-motes and 2 mics for 4 players simultaneously. While in Party Play, you can have 8 players going, just rotating who has the mic at the time. There’s a Story Mode, but also a Party Mode and Quick Play Mode. There are 12 mini-games to play, including the previously mentioned hand jive hop (combine a balance board and a Wii-mote and 2 people can do the hand jive) or racing on Thunder Road. You’ll have 7 DDR-styled dance games and 5 action games. Players can recreate Danny’s scene at the track when he was trying to win Sandy’s love back in a sports mini-game or play various fairground games like the Pie Throw when the kids are at the Rydell Graduation Carnival. You’ll dance, sing and shake your Wii-motes like maracas in 16 master track songs (15 of them being vocal tracks) from Grease on the Wii version and 10 on the DS.

The DS version will be a rhythm game and will have players working their dance moves by tapping in time with the game using their stylus. 505 Games motion captured dancers for the DS version, but if you’d rather see a more familiar face on the screen, those gamers with the DSi can even take their picture and slap it on the character of their choice to jump into the game themselves.

Look for Grease to rock and roll its way into your heart on 8/24/10.
