Shoot, Stab or Get Outta The Way

InterWorks has been aggressive in acquiring new lines this year, developing a wide range of unique accessories for a variety of different types of games and gamers. Cathy Tische, acting VP of Sales for InterWorks stated, "Our recent licensing agreements with Capcom and HKS open up a range of opportunities for creating some very exciting and original products."

At my appointment with InterWorks, I got to check out a prototype of the Resident Evil Magnum and Knife Kit, which are add-on accessories for the Wii-mote and Nunchuk, respectively. They were interesting concepts, and would be nice on display, if they came with a display stand, as I suggested... Hopefully, they'll take me up on that one. Display Stand. (It would rock.)

One interesting product that InterWorks was showing for the DSi is DSi Photo World, which happens to be the only Nintendo DSi game to date to utilize the DSi Camera and e-mail capabilities, sending e-mails to actual email addresses, via a WiFi connection. Photo World is made to replicate the fun of a photo booth, in the palm of your hand, allowing you to take pictures of yourself (and your friend or friends and your dog or whatever...) in several poses, then select different treatments, borders and decals and then save them and share them with others by emailing them to friends.

The product that I found really interesting was the HKS Racing Controller for PS3. The general form-factor of this controller is a gamepad; you hold it with both hands in front of you. However, the HKS Racing Controller is designed especially for fast-paced PS3 racing games and features a unique rubber-coated, self-centering roller wheel control on the left side of the controller for steering and buttons for gas and brake that are fully analog and designed to be like small gas and break pedals. The HKS Racing Controller allows players to easily execute real-world racing techniques, such as heel-toe cornering, using their hands. At first, I thought the design was a bit odd, but after playing Ridge Racer for a bit, I quickly got to the point that I was easily entering, controlling and exiting my drifts. I hope to get an HKS Racing Controller in-house for a more in-depth test drive, so check back for a full-featured review when it releases.
