The Other Avatar

Avatar: The Last Airbender was a stellar Nickelodeon cartoon series that still has a huge following (despite the show being completed almost two years ago). With such a solid fan-base, it’s no wonder there is an upcoming live-action film that portrays the first season of the show. And, of course, with a blockbuster film comes a game ... let’s just hope it doesn’t go the way of most tie-in games.

At first glance, which is all that E3 has to offer, The Last Airbender looks like it will be a solid Wii and DS title that will capture the essence of the film. Unlike previous Avatar games, The Last Airbender takes on the drastically more realistic look that the film does, and puts you in control of Aang, Prince Zuko and even the Blue Spirit as you race through the events of the film. Of course, which character you will control is based on the scenes from the film.

The demo at E3 had Aang chasing the Blue Spirit through a Fire Nation complex. In this demo, I was able to get a feel for the Airbending controls as I not only fought enemies with blasts of winds, but also used those powers to move objects and attack opponents with them or simply place them on switches.

Look for these titles to be released in just a few weeks, just days prior to M. Night Shyamalan’s film hits theaters.
