Kama... You Come and Go...

Yes, this is a reference to a Boy George song. And, yes, there was a product called the Kama, although I have to think that the name wasn't quite as well understood and appreciated as it should have been. A while back, you see, Nyko had their own version of the Wii Nunchuk, which they called the Kama. Leaving the whole issue of naming kids' gaming hardware after ancient weaponry completely aside for a moment, the Kama was a pretty good product - especially the wireless version, which avoided the restriction of movement the Nunchuk introduced in the first place.

That was then, this is now. Nyko is introducing the next version of the Kama controller, and they're calling it... um, the Kama. No "plus," no "extreme," no "Happy, Happy Sunshine Edition"... just the Kama. Which is fine, really, but doesn't readily point out the fact that this controller has been updated with a the same Soft Feel Surface that is featured on the Raven controllers. This Soft Feel Surface covers the entire body of the Kama, providing a comforting grip that is secure yet soft. Like the previous version of the Kama, there is a lightweight and compact dongle which attaches to the bottom of the remote and provides a wireless range of up to 3 meters. The Kama can get up to 30 hours of gameplay on two AAA batteries (included), for extended gameplay sessions and, with the Soft Feel Surface, you might actually find yourself playing longer. When I first encountered this coating, I didn't want to set the controller down. The Kama Controller with Soft Feel Surface will be available in Grey or Black and will have a suggested retail price of $24.99 USD.
