Conduit to FPS Goodness

Conduit 2 picks up right where Conduit left off. Unfortunately, (especially considering the news headlines of the last 2 months), that happens to be on an oil rig. You begin the game as Michael Ford, the Secret Service Agent from the first game. Aliens have been controlling humans from behind the scenes, following their invasion, as we learned in the last game. Your goal is to get to the crashed alien ship, the Atlantis, which has sunk deep under the water, and it will be no easy task getting there.

The dev team at High Voltage really wanted to flesh out the A.I and not just have them waiting in a room to be attacked. As you approach them, they will be engaged in their daily activities and not simply dumb bots waiting to be killed. However, the A.I. can have any weapon and they will act accordingly, so be ready for anything. Each weapon will also have an Alt weapon and iron sights. Weapons like the Hive Cannon (or “honey glob” as the dev team calls it) have been remodeled, so expect to see the things you liked from the last game improved upon.

You’ll come upon Atlantian technology in the game which seems cool at first, but Atlantis is drawn to it, so taking one of the many branching paths available to you might spell danger or doom. You won’t be forced in a linear path, however and can even skip entire areas altogether, if you choose to play it out that way. It’s totally up to you. There will be some light Wii Motion Plus controls used, but for the most part, the focus is on the shooting.

When it comes to bosses, the team wanted to go back to a more old school approach and have really bad-ass bosses in classic boss fights. How about a huge Leviathan that attacks not only you, but the oil derrick you are on? That’s what you can expect. If it glows on him, shoot it up and you’ll eventually be successful. But probably not before taking one hell of a beating.

Where multiplayer is concerned, Conduit 2 lets you select your weapons load-out before joining. You’ll get Perks like you do in Call of Duty and will be able to customize your own model with skins, colors, suit upgrades, etc. to craft your own experience. You can buy items in the store system or find items in the single player experience which will then be available to you in multiplayer without you having to purchase them. There are 2 ranking systems and the levels are always going up, and a class ranking system is employed for matching up players. There is a new co-op mode called Team Invasion Mode where up to 4 players can play cooperatively, side by side, in either a split screen mode or over Nintendo Wi-Fi. If you just want to play online, you can play with up to 12 people or locally with up to 4 via split screen.

Conduit 2 seems to be coming along nicely. If you were a fan of the first game, you’ll want to see where the story goes on Wii this Fall/Winter.
