One LEGO to Rule Them All

Warner Bros. Interactive and TT Games have just announced a new addition to the LEGO series of games. This newest title brings the classic fantasy adventure, The Lord of the Rings, to life in a way that only TT Games seems to be able to do.

LEGO The Lord of the Rings covers the three Peter Jackson films and while little information about the game has yet to be released, most of TT Games' releases under the LEGO brand haven't been even the slightest bit disappointing. At this point, any statements on the structure of the gameplay are pure speculation, but it seems like this title would fit better with the hub and level design of most of the LEGO games as opposed to the sprawling, exploring style of the recent LEGO Harry Potter releases.

The bit of gameplay we’ve seen, well the cutscenes, no actual gameplay, shows LEGO versions of Frodo, Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and the others in several classic scenes from the film. I was especially impressed with the scene where the Fellowship was running for its life from the Mines of Moria and Gandalf makes his stand on the rock bridge against a briefly seen Balrog. I will say though, that even though the trailer has music as the only sound in the trailer, I could swear I saw LEGO Gandalf’s lips say “You shall not pass,” which hints at actual voices in the game. I’m not sure how to take that since the lack of dialogue is one of the amusing details from the games.

While the press release we have don't seem to specify if the game will cover the theatrical or extended editions of the movies, either way, there is sure to be enough content to really make LEGO The Lord of the Rings a long and extensive gameplay experience.

LEGO The Lord of the Rings is slated for release on the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC, Vita and both the DS and 3DS this Fall.
