The Philosopher's Sto... err... Game

The Talos Principle looks to be a rather unusual entry in the adventure/puzzle genre, one that puts the player in a carefully constructed "metaphysical parable about intelligence and meaning in an inevitably doomed world."

Being developed by Croteam, the creators of Serious Sam and written by Tom Jubert (FTL, The Swapper) and Jonas Kyratzes (Infinite Ocean), The Talos Principle has you play as an artificial intelligence compelled by your creators to solve a series of puzzles, each one more difficult than the last. The game will present over 120 puzzles where you will use advanced and futuristic technology to solve each puzzle set in digital recreations of humanity’s ruins. With each puzzle you solve, you prove your value to your creators, but even though the setting for these puzzles is in an apparently primitive environment, the game will have you do everything from divert drones to disable turrets for your creators' studies.

Croteam is touting the fact that their Serious Engine 4 allows them to faithfully recreate locations and objects scanned in the real world to be placed in their games. An example of such a digital recreation can be seen in the below screenshot.

Expect to see The Talos Principle on the PS4, PC, Mac and even Linux in Q3 of 2014.
