Ear Blasters
Score: 80%
Developer: Pelican

Function:

The Ear Blasters for Game Boy Advance are a very simple set of headphones that delivered more than I was expecting. The ear clips slide onto your ear very effortlessly, and after they are on and because they are so light, you forget they are there. You can control the volume of your game through the GBA volume control or you can use volume control knob of the headphones, which I found worked better.

Performance:

I tested the Ear Blasters with two GBA games, Castlevania and GT Championship Racing. After just a few minutes, you realize that these games have an awesome soundtrack for a handheld game. It is hard to hear when just using the GBA speaker, but once you plug in the Ear Blasters , you can hear the stereo separation in the games. This is enhanced by the 30mm Neodymium Drivers. I am not quite sure what those are, but I was able to find out they have something to do with magnets and it helps with the bass response of your headphones. It is not quite 3D sound, but its does make the games much more enjoyable.

Features:
  • Slip-on ear clips
  • Full ear padding
  • Volume control dial
  • 30mm Neodymium Drivers

Drawbacks & Problems::

One of the only problems with the Ear Blasters is that the sound can be a little distorted when your volume is too high. It never becomes un-listenable and the GBA is not able to be so loud as to damage your ear. Also, one of the features that some people like with headphones is that they completely immerse you in sound and it blocks out any sound from around you. The Ear Blasters do not do this, but I don't consider this a drawback or a problem. I prefer to be able to hear a little bit of the surrounding world, which is what you hear - just a little bit.
