USB Intruder
Score: 90%
Developer: Logic 3
Device Type: Controller

Function:

This is a PlayStation-similar controller, folks! For those of you like me, using a controller with the same configuration of buttons is a must on the PC. The USB Intruder from Logic 3 will satisfy ALL gamers, whether or not you have ever picked up a PSX controller or not. It is VERY comfortable and, even better, simple to install.

Performance:

The USB Intruder is a very sturdy controller. You can expect that controlling your character movements will be fluid and pull you into the action. Its eight-button interface is similar to a PlayStation controller, so fans of console systems will feel right at home. Most PC games will allow you to configure your controller?s buttons within, but if not, there is no programming software included with this controller... which makes this a pain in the... well, you know.

The USB Intruder is a snap to install. Being USB-compatible, you don?t even have to shut down your system! Just plug the sucka in and Windows will search for drivers. Pop in your Windows CD, click OK, and BAM -- you?re good to go! I did have a small difficulty, however, which was easily solved with a bit o? help from Geck0. I had a gameport controller already installed on my computer, so most of the test games recognized the other controller for configuration. To solve this, you have to simply change the other controller?s ?ID? to 2, and make the USB Intruder?s ID equal to ?1? in its place. To do this, follow these instructions:

Please note: If you only have this one controller, then you may skip this next paragraph.
Go to START MENU, SETTINGS, and CONTROL PANEL. Then, double-click the GAME CONTROLLERS icon. In this window, click on the ADVANCED tab. There should be a list of controllers here. Click on the CHANGE button. HIGHLIGHT the ?other? controller that is in ID=1. Change its ID to any available number. Now HIGHLIGHT the USB Intruder controller. Change its ID to 1 and change the ?other? controller?s ID back to 2 (or the next available number). Finally, click OK. You should now be set up with the USB Intruder as controller #1. Verify this on the list.

Features:
  • Eight fire buttons
  • Easily connected via an open USB Port (no need to shut down your system)
  • Multiplayer Compatible

Drawbacks & Problems::

Without having a second controller already installed (see the Installation instructions above), this controller?s only drawback is the lack of programmability. Absolutely no software came with the USB Intruder. However, don?t let this discourage you. This is a solid gamepad, and most PC games will allow you to configure the controller within.
