Vibration Pack
Score: 90%
Developer: Sunflex
Device Type: Accessory

Function:

Sunflex?s Vibration Pack is their version of the Sega Jump Pack. And, for what it does, it does very well. It vibrates, and, err... it vibrates. The Vibration Pack snaps into the back port of the Dreamcast with nary a hitch, and usually a button press in the Option menu later, you?re off and shaking. Many Dreamcast titles support the Jump Pack nowadays, and in all of the games that I played with it, the Vibration Pack did admirably.

The device seems to work by spinning an unbalanced rotor -- you can see it through the clear case. It starts and stops quickly, giving a nice solid rumble reminiscent of the Dual Shock. Of course, it?s on the bottom of the controller, so you don?t get quite the full-bodied feel that you do with the Dual Shock itself, but that?s certainly not the fault of the Pack.

The removal clasp, such as it is, is easy to use with one hand. This makes taking it out of one controller and putting it in another a snap. (Pardon the pun.)

In fact, the only issue one might have with the Pack is that it?s not a completely snug fit inside the controller port. It can wiggle around a little, and although I don?t think that hurts either the Pack or the controller, it?s a tad disconcerting.

As I said before, for what the Vibration Pack does, it does very well.

Performance:

Step One: Put Vibration Pack in second port of Dreamcast controller.

Step Two: Go into game?s Option menu and turn on ?Vibration.?

Step Three: Enjoy.

Features:
  • Equivalent to Sega Jump Pack
  • Clear case so you can see spinning mechanism -- woo!
  • Lightweight
  • Easy to remove

Drawbacks & Problems::

The only problem I see with the Vibration Pack is that it doesn?t quite fit snugly inside of the port. Perhaps that?s how it gets some of its rumble, but it?s a little bothersome, especially for a device that shakes around by design.

Basically, the Vibration Pack is a solid replacement for the ?real thing? from Sega. If you already have a Sega Jump Pack, there?s no need to get one of these. But if you don?t have one already, you can?t go wrong with the Vibration Pack.
