Shock 'n' Rock
Score: 100%
Developer: Nyko
Device Type: Accessory

Function:

The Shock 'n' Rock is an enhancing accessory. It makes your Game Boy Color bigger, badder, louder, and better for up to ten hours. The rubberized grip and larger case make your Game Boy Color easier to handle. There is a switch to turn the Sound and Vibration either on or off, a headphone jack and a spot to plug in the A/C adapter, which was included. If you are an avid Game Boy Color fan or spend a lot of time traveling, run to the store now and buy one. Only -- if you are traveling with others, bring along your headphones. Others might not want to rock that hard.

There is really no learning curve. Pop out the batteries and panel cover on your Game Boy Color, plug it into the Shock 'n' Rock, and never take it out again. As far as recharging the battery, it?s as simple as plugging in the A/C adapter (which is included). Anyone can use it and everyone should!

Performance:

The best way to describe the Shock 'n' Rock is your Game Boy Color on steroids. It pumps up the volume (very noticeably), lets your GBC rumble like never before, and gives you a rubberized grip so you can fully utilize its ten-hour battery pack! Wow. Plus, it looks cool with its electric purple clear case. The instructions say it's a six to ten hour battery pack depending on whether you use the amplified speakers, the rumble, or both. I'll say this -- it lasted as long as I needed it to and then some -- and that's with everything on full speed. From the moment you turn it on and feel that little rumble that let's you know it's there, you know you?ve found a winner. As with any Nyko product, the design is superb and the functionality unparalleled.

Features:
  • Built-in fully adjustable vibration
  • Amplified stereo speakers and headphone jack
  • Up to ten-hour rechargable batteries
  • Includes A/C adapter and charger
  • Ergonomic design and rubberized no-slip grip for enhanced gameplay
  • Durable clear plastic case in electric purple to match your GBC!

Drawbacks & Problems::

So far, I haven't encountered any. The Shock 'n' Rock works perfectly and I can't foresee ever removing it from my Game Boy Color. Should problems arise, I will edit this review to reflect them.

[Editor's Note: It's June 18, 2011, I don't even know where the GameBoy is at this point. I just fixed some single quotes that got messed up due to some database conversion issues a while back, so I can link to this review from a story from E3 2011. We never had any complaints with the Shock 'n' Rock, and the last time I saw our GameBoy, it was still attached. Now, Nyko is releasing a Shock 'N' Rock for the 3DS, and we're excited to try it out.]
