Megatron Starter Kit
Score: 95%
Developer: Performance Designed Products
Device Type: Accessory

Function:

I'm sure a lot of you have seen the new movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. When the last Transformers movie came out, I reviewed a really cool case that turned into a Transformer. This time, I have an even cooler case for my DS to make it look Transformer-like, the Megatron Starter Kit! It is also available in Bumblebee.

First thing to mention is that this is the easiest case I have ever put on my DS. You simply set the DS inside and snap it into place. You can't mess it up! The only thing that wasn't instantly obvious (yes, it took 1 second to figure out) was the case for extra DS games on the bottom. You can store up to two spare DS games by just sliding (don't try to take it off) the cover towards the back and placing the game in the spot. Once you slide it closed, the games are quite secure. I can't see them accidentally falling out. I do love that protection for spare games that you might want to bring with you!

Performance:

The case itself does look like it provides some protection too. While I'm not going to throw my DS on my tile floor just to test it, it does look like it will provide protection from accidently dropping it or hopefully a dog getting a hold of it. You can tell what the big concern is in my house! Did I mention that it also comes with a new stylus? This stylus is also "armored." The three-sided armor on it makes it so that you can hold the stylus more like you would a regular pencil. It's quite a bit more comfortable than a normal stylus!

After you have the case on, I think that it makes the DS more comfortable to hold. It doesn't increase the size by too much, which is good for smaller hands. The game case holder on the bottom feels rubberized. This rubber makes it softer to the touch and keeps it from sliding all over the place if you lay it down on a movable surface, like a car dash.

I'm sure you're also concerned with what your DS is going to look like under the armor. The armor does not cover the entire DS. All of the buttons and the GBA port on the front are easily accessible. The stylus is also easy to get to as well for those times that you're not bringing the new armored stylus with you. The Black and Grey colors of the armor work well with any DS color as well. My pink DS looks quite stylish peeking out from beneath.

Features:
  • DS Lite Armor
  • Universal Stylus
  • Extra Cartridge Storage

Drawbacks & Problems::

The only thing I can think of that isn't included is a way to attach the new armored stylus to the case, but that would be a little difficult. Given that your normal stylus is still very accessible, there's really no need to carry the new one around all the time. Really though, I can't find anything else wrong with it, and that's not even something that's wrong, just something that would have been nice. Overall, the Megatron Starter Kit is the best case I've found for my DS. It's not coming off any time soon!
