When our stars are invited to an Amsterdam film festival by mistake (you see, Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton were supposed to be the guests of honor), Cheech and Chong persuade the festival's organizers to let them do the show.
Imagine the pair's surprise when noone in the country knows how Cheech and Chong are, despite their many movies and comedic albums. Consequently, everything from their daily life (taking full advantage of the legal marijuana and casual sex) to the festival's press conferences result in quite a few comedic situations. One of the funniest scenes has the pair in front of a bunch of press members, who for some reason think they are actually "Mr. Burt" and "Mr. Dolly."
Throughout the movie, Cheech and Chong spend their days trying to think of the different skits they could do for the film festival, and followers of these comedians will recognize a good number of these bits since they appeared on the pair's various comedic albums. These skits include everything from "Blind Melon Chitlin," to "Old Man In The Park" and "Ralph and Herbie." Eventually, the festival begins and the pair appear on stage. I actually really enjoyed this last part of the film (at least a lot more than the rest). The stage-based performance feels very different from the rest of the movie.
Special features are very lacking. Cheech and Chong's Still Smokin simply comes with the original theatrical trailer and the standard "I Love the 80's" CD that comes with every other movie released under this brand. This CD has the classic 80's tunes like "Lips Like Sugar" (Echo & the Bunnymen), "Chain of Love" (Erasure), "Need You Tonight" (INXS) and "Take On Me" (a-ha).
Obviously, Cheech and Chong isn't for everyone. As the original stoner movies, it's easy to see where movies like Harold and Kumar came from, but if you haven't seen one of their movies before, then you might not like what you find here.
