Girlfriends: The Sixth Season brings even more changes to the girls' lives than ever before. For starters, Joan (Tracee Ellis Ross) and William (Reginald C. Hayes) realize that they don't click romantically, but will they find love elsewhere? Toni (Jill Jones) and Todd (Jason Pace) realize that they don't need to stay in a loveless marriage just because they've just had their daughter Morgan, but soon they become embroiled in a bitter custody battle. Lynn (Persia White), fresh from a harsh break-up with Finn, contemplates her future from a hilltop, only to find a confused girl named Jennifer who is trying to commit suicide. Lynn gives her a reason to live, namely, they immediately get engaged!

Lynn spends a good part of the season avoiding physical contact with Jennifer, only to find out Jennifer isn't gay and was simply trying to please Lynn. Although the premise sounds funny, I didn't find the "Jennifer" episodes all that funny (she was sort of annoying) and was glad when she exited the picture.

Meanwhile, Toni struggles with caring for Morgan, going through several rough patches. While Joan was originally there for her, as her restaurant, The J Spot, begins to fail, only to turn around and become a huge success, Joan has little time for her friends. Once her place makes the cover of L.A. Living magazine (after she sleeps with the reporter), Joan finds herself an "It Girl" and falls into a shallow lifestyle, juggling several men, buying herself a Porsche, going to A-list parties and forgetting about her friends. It all culminates in a humiliating experience at a party where Joan wakes up covered in her own vomit, only to miss Toni's very important custody battle court date.

Things are pretty crazy for Maya (Golden Brooks) as well. She and Darnell (Khalil Kain) get back together, getting remarried in a whirlwind trip to Vegas. But things have changed and they have stuff to work out. But things go well for them and they even purchase their own first home, only to have Darnell's dream job of being on a NASCAR pit crew come through the very next day! Unfortunately, the job is in Florida. Now they have to figure out what comes next.

Overall, I thought Girlfriends: The Sixth Season was the weakest one yet. Yes, there were plenty of laughs to be had, but it just wasn't as overall hysterical as it has been. I also really disliked the episode thrown in about Joan's young cousin and her pro sports boyfriend. I guess they were setting up a spin-off, but it was terrible.

If you have been following the show so far, you won't want to miss this season, but just be aware that it seems to be going somewhat downhill. I guess there are only two more seasons to go, so we'll see what happens next.
